Synology® Expands the Plus Series with DiskStation 1515+ and 1815+

High-performance NAS optimized for intensive tasks and encryption

Synology® today introduced its newest Plus series DiskStations, the DS1515+ and DS1815+. Both multi-bay NAS servers are designed to facilitate intensive data exchange, collaboration, and reliable backups for small and medium-sized businesses.

“The DS1515+ and DS1815+ are Synology’s newest products based upon this new Intel Atom platform, a modern platform that is designed for embedded server applications. This new platform is designed to meet the needs of today’s businesses, with encryption acceleration being part of the forefront of today’s privacy standards, such as HIPAA environments,” says Franklin Hua, Technical Marketing Manager.

Ideal for Sensitive Data

Featuring an Intel® Atom™ processor C2000 family 2.4GHz quad-core processor with Intel® AES New Instructions (Intel® AES-NI) encryption, as well as a RAM module expandable to 6 GB for faster performance execution. Both scalable models are ideal for executing demanding tasks required for businesses working with sensitive data, and virtualization environments.

“Intel is committed to enabling SMBs with advanced yet cost-effective technologies to boost productivity,” said Bev Crair, general manager of the storage division at Intel Corporation. “The Atom C2000 processor provides Synology NAS with an impressive level of encryption performance for file transfers, while the low energy consumption design keeps operating costs low – both of which are prime concerns for small businesses.”

Impressive Speed, Reliability and Scalability

Equipped with four Gigabit LAN ports supporting Link Aggregation and failover reducing downtimes while ensuring writing speeds exceeding 420 MB/s for DS1815+ and 390 MB/s for DS1515+, nearly double the speed of their predecessors. Reading speeds exceeding 450 MB/s, makes both NAS adept at handling requests from a great number of users simultaneously. DS1515+ and DS1815+ can be scaled up to a raw capacity of 90 and 108 TB respectively by connecting DX513 expansion units via eSATA connections.

The two models support Synology High Availability (SHA), users can take advantage of the units’ multiple LAN ports to ensure the highest uptime and resiliency. The SSD read/write cache support further allows organizations to see a considerable boost in throughput while minimizing the cost per gigabyte. Certified by VMware®, Citrix®, and Microsoft Hyper-V®, both NAS servers can be seamlessly integrated into a company's virtualization environment and act as a powerful central storage.

DS1515+ and DS1815+ run DiskStation Manager (DSM) 5.1, an intuitive web-based operating system that provides a host of applications to bring better productivity to work. Synology was voted as “PCMag Business Choice Award 2013 winner” and received the highest rating in every element of the survey, including reliability, overall satisfaction, value, and likelihood to recommend for Small Business Storage.
