MMO developer Funcom is now under financial investigation by Norwegian authorities for possible stock infringment.
The developer behind hit MMO games such as Age of Conan and The Secret World was raided by Norwegian police this morning on suspicion of financial misconduct.
According to several Norwegian news outlets (Funcom is based in Oslo), the studio failed to properly report company finance information between the period of August, 2011 and July 2012 and thus violated the country’s Securities Trading Act. Several boxes of documents were seized by the authorities after they stormed and searched the studio. Funcom quietly confirmed the stories shortly after but hasn’t released an official statement as of yet.
As a result of the seizure, Funcom’s financial stock has been temporarily closed during the period of the investigation. This investigation comes at an especially trying time for the studio which was forced to restructure (i.e. let go of) much of its staff just last year. What affect this will have on the company’s games, including its upcoming Lego Minifigures Online MMO, remains to be seen.
