A misinterpreted quote from Naughty Dog's community strategist has recieved some much needed clarification.
A few days ago, a dismissive comment from Naughty Dog’s Community Strategist Eric Monacelli implied that there was no hope for a 2014 release for the developer’s upcoming next-gen Uncharted game or for a GOTY edition of the studio’s previous hit The Last of Us. Now Monacelli has come forth to offer some clarification.
It all began last Wednesday when Monacelli was answering questions about the upcoming Last of Us: Left Behind single-player DLC over on the official PS Blog forums. A fan posed the following question in the thread:
“UC4 Easter eggs??? UC4 for PS4 in 2014…LOU GOTY edition please!!!!!!! for PS3!”
Monacelli’s response was a simple and curt “Ha. Doubtful.” Many fans naturally assumed he was answering all three of the fan’s requests and were more than a little irate. However, Monacelli has now released a follow-up statement in which he says his response was only directed at the first question regarding Uncharted easter eggs showing up in the Left Behind DLC:
“I answer the questions when replying. The only question was the Easter egg question. A lot of passion and gossip happening otherwise!”
Since there were no question marks at the end of the second and third sentences in the fan’s post, Monacelli didn’t consider them as questions and instead regarded them as more of excited requests (which is what they are). While this doesn’t *confirm* that the new Uncharted game will arrive in 2014 or that The Last of Us will be getting a GOTY edition, it is comforting to see Naughty Dog taking the time to make sure fans shouldn’t be ruling anything out prematurely.
The Last of Us: Left Behind will be available on February 14 as either a standalone purchase or as part of the game’s season pass.
