From now until January 11th you can watch some amazing speed runs of your favorite games and contribute to cancer prevention research at the same time.
The video game speed run archive website Awesome Games Done Quick (gamesdonequick.com) is hosting their annual six-day livestream during which time they are accepting donations to help fund the Prevent Cancer Foundation while streaming blazingly fast speed runs of hundreds of games.
The team at Awesome Games Done Quick has set an impressive goal of raising $500,000 dollars by the end of the event and as of the time of this writing they have already reached $77,334 (the event started yesterday and is running until January 11th). Those interested in donating can contribute as little ($0.01 for those feeling especially cheeky) or as much as they like (some generous donors have contributed as much as $1000.00 in the time I’ve been watching the stream). Donation payments can be made with a debit/credit card or via PayPal.
The Awesome Games Done Quick team has already shown off staggeringly impressive speed runs for games such as Super Monkey Ball 2, Banjo Kazooie, Hotline Miami, Ecco The Dolphin, and Tomb Raider 2. For those feeling particularly generous, meeting certain donation amount thresholds for certain games can net donors cool prizes such as t-shirts, posters, and even copies of retro games.
