Black Friday was a big day for gamers in the UK and it wasn't without its share of surprises.
Last Friday was a busy day for UK-based gamers since it marked the release of both Nintendo’s latest smash hit Wii U Mario title Super Mario 3D World as well as Sony’s next-gen console the PlayStation 4 along with its entire library of launch titles including Knack. But which among them had the better day in terms of sales numbers? The answer might surprise you.
According to a new report released by the UK’s ChartTrack sales tracking data, Super Mario 3D World debuted to impressive sales numbers, ranking it number 14 on its sales charts. However, the highly successful launch of the PlayStation 4 (it has now become the fastest selling console in UK history) seems to have pushed PS4-exclusive platformer Knack just ahead of the red-capped plumber, landing it at number 13 on the UK sales charts.
This comes as odd news considering Super Mario 3D World was met with near universal praise when it was released in the U.S. last month while many critics found Knack to be mostly uninspired and a poor example for showcasing the PlayStation 4’s power. Some are speculating that it’s simply a case of excited PS4 buyers wanting to grab any new games they can without really bothering to read up on the games themselves, thus the impressive spike in Knack sales.
Either way, it’s safe to assume that both Nintendo and Sony are happy with the UK sales numbers and that despite what the critics think, UK gamers will have plenty of games to play this holiday season.
