Pokemon X and Y had a lot to do with the 3DS staying at the top of the video game system heap.
The Nintendo 3DS has been the best selling video game system for the past six months. With more than 452,000 units sold, the 3DS is just what Nintendo needed when times weren’t so great for the Wii U. Nintendo just needed to keep its head above water, with the 3DS keeping things going, and then wait till the Wii U comes out of its tail-spin. That time should be now with Mario 3D World and in the upcoming year Donkey Kong and the next Smash Brothers.
Pokemon X and Y had a lot to do with the 3DS’s success this month, seeing as though the launch of the most anticipated Pokemon games in years was on the 3DS. X and Y were first and second on the sales list, selling more than 1.7 million units together. The system more than doubled the sales compared to September and set the mark for most portable/home consoles sold in a single month this year. Nintendo appears to be hitting its stride with recent releases, such as Pokemon, and future releases, like Super Mario 3D World and LOZ: Link Between Worlds. With the holidays approaching, Nintendo should be able to keep this pace up with games like Sonic: Lost World, LOZ: Link Between Worlds, Mario Party: Island Tour, Wii Sports Club, and Mario and Sonic at the Sochi Olympics. The Wii U and 3DS bundles will be a great asset in Nintendo keeping these sale numbers up to and through the holidays.
