It seems only natural that anything associated with JJ Abrams carries with it an unsolved mystery. As such, we're not really surprised at the hidden message embedded in the newsest Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer.

Just hours after the newly released Star Trek Into Darkness trailer hits the internet, the ever intrepid superfans over at TrekMovie have discovered something in their frame-by-frame trailer decode. Hidden on an Enterprise control panel at the bottom right of the screen around the 1:07 mark of the Apple trailer, is the website url AreYouThe1701.com.

Following the link leads us to an, as yet, relatively inactive website. Clicking the main logo reveals a place to enter your email, country, zip code, and birthdate. After submitting, the site simply says "Thank you, we will let you know when the search begins." It also provides twitter and facebook links for the campaign.

Naturally, we're extremely curious. We assume 1701 refers to the Enterprise's ship number: NX-1701, but at this point, there are no other clues to the mystery. However, since it's a JJ Abram's Bad Robot mystery, I'm pretty sure we can expect something fantastic.

Thanks to Slashfilm for the tip!

Star Trek Into Darkness hits theatres on May 17, 2013.
