The newly released Star Trek Into Darkness trailer is one dread filled, doom suggestive, darkenss enfused minute and fifty-seven seconds. Naturally, we're thrilled.

Reminiscent of the equally morbid and destructive The Dark Knight trailer, the newest Star Trek Into Darkness trailer promises a film full of gloom, terror, and unparalleled story telling. This trailer (watch below) is suggestive of a struggle between Captain Kirk's (Christopher Pine) innate leadership abilities and his arrogant nature, which puts his crew and everyone he loves in danger. It further appears the choices that Kirk makes will affect the entire Federation, not just his crew, when a villain (Benedict Cumberbatch) capable of defeating him makes his presence explosively known.

While we can hope for some moments of the light-hearted humor seen in the first 2009 film, it's safe to say that this Star Trek sequel will be a turn to the dark side. And if The Dark Knight is indicative of the audience reaction to this sort of film, we're assuming Into Darkness will do extraordinarily well. Plus, the astounding visuals and effects speak for themselves.

Star Trek Into Darkness hits theatres May 17, 2013.
