Three of the better selling Wii games are getting a price reduction.
Three of the top tier Wii games will be getting a price cut, giving people more reason to believe that Nintendo is gearing up for the holdiay season early this year. It also shows that Nintendo isn’t giving up on providing the most variety of games to their fans, for all of their systems.
Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Brothers Wii, and Wii Sports Resort will now have a retail price of $29.99. These were three of the top games during the Wii’s lifespan and the price cut shows that Nintendo feels fans still want these games to play. Mario Galaxy 2 has sold 2.7 million units in the United States alone. New Super Mario Brothers Wii has sold more than 9.4 million units in the US and Wii Sports Resort has sold close to 7 million units in the US.
You could see more “player choice” titles get price cuts like Nintendo used to do. Nintendo does a lot in terms of nostalgia with several games getting rereleases and updated versions, which isn’t a bad thing. Had the Wii U not have the ability to play Wii games, this wouldn’t be an option for Nintendo to do. Combine this with the new 2DS Nintendo is releasing and Nintendo’s plan for variety and everyone being able to play comes to the forefront. In terms of business, this, like the 2DS, is a great method to generate profit. Who knows if business strategies like these would have come to light if the Wii U was selling better?
