Xbox fans who are hoping to expand the amount of storage space for their Xbox One consoles might be in for a bit of a wait.

Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb confirmed in his PAX Prime podcast that the Xbox One will not support external storage at launch but that such functionality will eventually be added in.

During the podcast Hyrb made the announcement that external storage for the Xbox One "will not be there at launch because the team is working on some other things, but it definitely is on the list." Hyrb couldn’t give any sort of timeframe of when Microsoft plans to add external storage at this time.

This news comes as yet another minor setback for Microsoft after the Xbox One team already had to cut Kinect voice commands for a large majority of the regions in which the Xbox One is launching this November. Considering the fact that the Wii U comes with external storage right out of the box and that Sony is making sure external storage will be available right at launch for the PlayStation 4, Microsoft may once again have to start playing catch-up.

How this will affect the Xbox One, which is already heavily reliant on digital downloads and installations, at launch is tough to tell at this point but hopefully Microsoft will be adequetly prepared.
