EA is looking to pull ahead in the digital games distribution race by allowing users to return purchased digital games.
EA’s digital platform has always played second fiddle to Valve’s Steam. But now, EA is hoping to even the playing field by offering a service that gives Origin a bit of an edge: allowing players to return bought games as long as certain criteria are met.
Origin’s “Great Games Guarantee” lets players return any game they’ve purchased through Origin but with certain conditions: a game can only be returned within 24 hours after it’s first launched, seven days after it’s first purchased, or seven days after the game’s release date (if the player pre-ordered it).
The Great Games Guarantee is available on both PC and Mac and will be rolled out worldwide over the next couple weeks. When combined with EA’s recent decision to nix online passes from all its games both new and previously released, Origin’s Great Games Guarantee could go a long way towards redeeming EA in the eyes of players and giving players another great platform through which to purchase digital games.
