If a new NeoGAF rumor is to be believed, Sony might be aiming for an October release for their upcoming next-gen PlayStation 4 console.
Despite their E3 promise of a “holiday season” release for the PlayStation 4, Sony might be working a little ahead of schedule if a new rumor is to be believed.
The rumor states that Sony is planning on releasing the PlayStation 4 on October 21st and the rumor’s source is a poster on the NeoGAF forums who is “Mod-verified” (a.k.a. he’s been confirmed by the heads of NeoGAF to be in a credible position to receive such information) thus, while it is still technically a rumor, it’s a rumor with a verified source.
If the October 21st release date was indeed accurate, Sony would certainly have quite an advantage over Microsoft and their Xbox One. The Xbox One isn’t set to release until roughly a month later in mid-November and releasing in October allows the PS4 to get the jump on several next-gen releases such as NBA 2k14 and Battlefield 4.
Many are anticipating Sony’s confirmation of the October 21st release at next week’s Gamescom conference but in the meantime it’s important to remember that, despite the verified source, this new rumor is still just that: a rumor. Is Sony really gunning for a one-month release head-start for their next-gen console? We’ll have to wait until Gamescom to find out for sure.
