Grand Theft Auto V will be region-free outside of Japan and will feature robust language support.

Developer Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox 360 will be region-free in every country except Japan and will support a number of different languages.

For those who don’t know, being region-free means that no matter where a game is purchased, it can still be played on consoles from other countries and continents. Whether a game is region-free or not isn’t really a concern for PlayStation 3 players as all disc-based PS3 games are region-free by default. For Xbox 360 however, it’s up to an individual game’s publisher to decide whether or not they want to make the game region-free.

The Japanese version of GTA V will be region-locked to Japanese consoles but non-Japanese copies will be playable on any console around the world and will come equipped with both region-specific and international language support which includes English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Korean, Traditional Chinese and Latin American Spanish.

No matter which region you’re based in, you can grab your very own copy of Grand Theft Auto V on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 when it’s released on September 17, 2013.
