The Xbox One's game recording feature, which allows players to record, save, and upload in-game footage, will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
In a bit of unsurprising news, Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One’s game recording feature, cleverly labeled as “Game DVR”, will in fact require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to use.

According to the Xbox Live Features page over at Xbox.com, Game DVR is amongst the list of Xbox Gold-required features for the Xbox One, joining the likes of NFL on Xbox, Xbox One’s TV Guide feature, and the revamped SmartMatch multiplayer matchmaking system (which isn’t surprising since Xbox Live Gold is required to play online multiplayer at all).
The Xbox One’s Game DVR will allow Gold members to record and save up to 5 minutes of in-game footage, edit it, and then upload it for public viewing. Players will also be able to instantly capture the last 30 seconds of gameplay for times when pausing the game may not be feasible (such as in the middle of a heated online multiplayer match).
As cool as Game DVR sounds, it doesn’t quite match up against the PlayStation 4’s Share feature which will allow players to save up to 15 minutes of footage and which won’t require a PlayStation Plus subscription.
