Recent rumors of a Kinect-free Xbox One bundle have been shot down by Microsoft.
Yesterday the website Inside Gaming Daily reported that Microsoft plans to release an Xbox One bundle sans Kinect sensor roughly a year from now (summer, 2014), citing "an anonymous source familiar with the matter." It would seem however that said source wasn’t as familiar as they claimed since Microsoft has flatly denied such rumors.
A Microsoft spokesperson sent out a statement to Kotaku this afternoon, saying that: "We have no plans to introduce an Xbox One without Kinect. We believe in Kinect and the value it brings to both games and entertainment, and believe $499 is a great value for what consumers receive with their Xbox One."
Even though we’ll have to wait until November to see whether or not the Kinect really does justify the Xbox One’s $499 price tag, it is nice to see that, for once, Microsoft is sticking to their guns in regards to the functionality of their next-gen console.
