Fez creator Phil Fish has confirmed via Twitter that a new update for Fez is in the works.

The popular indie platformer Fez will be getting a much-needed patch on XBLA according to creator Phil Fish via Twitter.

Ever since June of last year, Fez has been in a weird state after a patch that was released to fix a number of issues also caused some save files to become corrupted. Developer Polytron then re-released the patch the following month but were unable to fix the corrupted saves issue, blaming the “tens of thousands” of dollars they had to pay Microsoft just to release the patch the first time around.

But now that Microsoft has dropped the fees for patching or updating games, it would seem Polytron is taking another crack at it. Fish was careful to temper fan expectations, saying that the new update is still “a few months” away but that, even thought the corrupted save issue affects less than 1 percent of the entire Fez playerbase, he and the rest of the Polytron team understand it’s a risk that many potential players aren’t willing to take.

Fish also confirmed that Fez 2 is in development but Xbox players will be disheartened to hear that he also confirmed it will not be coming to either the Xbox 360 or the upcoming Xbox One.
