Mattrick's jump from Xbox to Zynga may have been spurred by more than just his shaky reputation with Xbox fans.
A new profile piece published by website Fast Company on former Microsoft president of interactive entertainment and new Zynga CEO Don Mattrick has shed some new light on why exactly Mattrick may have left the company.
According to the piece, Microsoft Studios is gearing up for a major reorganization of its workforce that will supposedly be taking place over the next few days. Mattrick was rumored to be in line to lead an entirely new hardware division but when he got the offer from Zynga he opted for that instead.
Fast Company’s piece also suggests that current Microsoft Studios head Phil Spencer may be on the docket to step into the vacancy left by Mattrick as Microsoft’s new president of interactive entertainment. Considering Spencer’s deep love of gaming and his highly positive reputation amongst Xbox fans, this would seem like a smart move on Microsoft’s part.
Microsoft has yet to comment on the situation but if this major reorganization is indeed happening, I doubt they’ll be able to keep it secret for long.
