The man who unveiled the Xbox One to the world is now in charge of troubled mobile developer Zynga.
Update: It's official. Former Zynga CEO Mark Pincus released a statement welcoming Don Mattrick as the new CEO for the company:
"Going forward I'll continue in my role as Chairman and Chief Product Officer. I'm excited to partner with Don and the rest of our team to return Zynga to its leadership role in inventing and growing Play as a core human experience."
Original Story: If recent reports are to be believed, Don Mattrick, the president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business division, might be leaving the company after being offered a top position at Zynga.
Most people might recognize Mattrick as the man who unveiled the Xbox One back in May and who recently made a number of Xbox-related missteps such as saying that players with poor internet connections should buy an Xbox 360 instead when questioned about the Xbox One’s always-online requirement or who claimed that the Xbox One offers “thousands of dollars of value” as a way to try and justify the system’s $100 price hike over the PlayStation 4.
Now it seems Mattrick might be joining a company that’s no stranger to controversy if a report from website All Things D is to be believed. According to All Things D, Mattrick has supposedly been offered a top-level position at mobile gaming company Zynga and could be announcing his departure from Microsoft as early as the end of today.
What sort of role Mattrick would take on for the troubled online gaming company is unknown but considering Zynga’s recent bouts with job cuts, bankruptcy, and insider trading lawsuits, at least he would no longer be the biggest elephant in the room.
