New details have emerged over why exactly Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition was pulled from digital stores last week.

After being mysteriously pulled from both the iOS store and publisher Beamdog’s digital distribution service last week, new details have emerged about Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition and what’s in store. Brace for bad news folks.

The game’s creative director Trent Oster has revealed that Beamdog is currently waist-deep in what he’s calling “legal hell” and that both future patches for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition as well as the planned follow up projects Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition and Baldur’s Gate 3 are on “indefinite hold.”

Oster cited “contractual issues” as the source of the publisher’s legal issues and the reason why the game was pulled in the first place and he didn’t have much good to say about the whole ordeal: "The prognosis [for resuming work on Baldur's Gate] is mixed. Best case, we can sort this out soon. Worst case, this could be in legal hell for a while. I like making games, but this contractual dispute B.S. keeps me up at night."

Hopefully Beamdog will be able to work through all these legal issues in a timely manner. It seems kind of silly that they’d have to be dealing with so many roadblocks simply for remaking a game that’s over a decade old but I suppose what’s done is done.
