The new adventures of Master Chief may not be limited to just Halo 4, 5, and 6 anymore thanks to Microsoft's new rebranding.
After the debut of an enigmatic trailer starring Master Chief at their E3 press conference, Microsoft has confirmed that they’re rebranding the Halo Reclaimer trilogy as a saga.
So what the heck is the difference between a trilogy and a saga? Well, originally the ‘Reclaimer Trilogy’ was only supposed to cover Halo 4 and the eventual Halo 5 and 6. However, confusion began to arise during E3 when Microsoft’s Don Mattrick referred to what was shown in the trailer as “Halo 5” (the end of the trailer showed just the word “Halo”) but then Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s corporate VP, referred to it simply as “the next Halo game that we are working on."
To help clear a few things up, Microsoft has now rebranded the Reclaimer trilogy as the Reclaimer saga. What this means is that Microsoft can now create new games set within the same period as the Reclaimer trilogy without having to attach numbers to them. Spin-off titles in the vein of Halo: Reach and ODST are now a very real possibility though Spencer could not comment on whether what was shown at E3 was indeed Halo 5 or just a spin-off game (though the presence of Master Chief does hint strongly that it was indeed the former).
While this is good news for Halo fans, here’s hoping Microsoft doesn’t try to stretch out the Reclaimer saga *too* too much…Fans will only be so patient waiting around for news of Halo 5 and 6 and whenever Microsoft gets around to releasing them.
