MOBA fans who have an iOS device can try out Zynga's new game Solstice Arena today free of charge.

All their financial and legal woes haven’t kept Zynga from doing what they do best: developing new social/mobile games. One such new game, a Zynga-labeled “speed MOBA” called Solstice Arena, is being released today.

The game is F2P much like other popular MOBA’s and players can choose to spend real money to unlock cosmetic upgrades for characters and if there’s a particular character a player is fond of, they can pay real money to permanently unlock that character.

*Unlike* other MOBA’s, Solstice Arena has no A.I. minions. Instead, a typical Solstice Arena match pitches two teams of three players against each other and if all three members of a team are defeated, their base’s towers and headquarters lose all offensive power. This small, fast-paced nature makes a typical game a quick affair (roughly 10-15 minutes) without sacrificing any of the depth or strategy of other big-name MOBA titles.

Characters level up outside of matches rather than within them and gold earned during matches can be used to purchase gear that increases a small pool of stats such as movement speed and ability recharge rates. Another unique feature is items found during matches that boost a variety of different elemental stats. Different elements boost different stats so certain characters will want to seek out certain elemental items to either bolster their stronger stats or give a much-needed boost to their weaker ones.

Solstice Arena is available for download now on iPad, iPad 2, iPad Mini, and the iPhone 4, 4S, and 5.
