The final game Nintendo showed off during their Nintendo Direct E3 showcase was a new Super Smash Bros. game slated for a Wii U and 3DS release.
Nintendo closed out this year’s Nintendo Direct E3 showcase by unveiling a brand new Super Smash Bros. game which is headed to both the 3DS handheld and Wii U console.
Nintendo remained coy on whether or not the two different versions of the game will have any sort of cross-play functionality but one part of the reveal trailer which showed a low-res 3DS Mario “shedding” his low-res form for a high-def Wii U appearance at least suggests that it is a possibility.
In addition to returning favorites like Kirby, Link, Samus, Pikachu, and Fox, this new entry in the Super Smash franchise will naturally feature plenty of fresh faces, two of whom were unveiled in the trailer. Animal Crossing fans will be delighted to discover that the game’s Villager is stepping into the ring with an assortment of adorable attacks but I’m betting fans will be even more excited for the second reveal: Capcom’s beloved blue bomber Mega Man.
Mega Man will naturally rely on his trusty Mega Buster gun for most of his attacks but he can also call on his robot dog Rush as well as utilize a variety of special attacks from some of his vanquished foes from his NES days including Leaf Shield, Hard Knuckle, Flame Blast, and Metal Blade amongst others.
Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS and Wii U is currently set for a 2014 release and you can bet Nintendo is going to continue teasing new characters during the months leading up to the game’s launch.
