During the Konami Pre-E3 show, it was revealed that actor Kiefer Sutherland would be portraying Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

During this year’s Pre-E3 Konami show, legendary game developer Hideo Kojima revealed some new details regarding the next entry in the famed Metal Gear series Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Chief among these details was the fact that Kiefer Sutherland, who many viewers no-doubt recognize from his portrayal of Jack Bauer on the hit show 24, will be providing both the voice and facial motion-capture for protagonist Snake.

During the Phantom Pain segment of the show, Kojima talked about his collaboration with film producer Avi Arad and how he wanted to accurately depict Snake as a believable 49-year-old protagonist. It was Arad who suggested veteran actor Kiefer Sutherland whose powerful yet emotional screen-presence instantly resonated with Kojima. Sutherland himself explained how even though this isn’t his first gig as a video game voice actor (he supplied the voice for Jack Bauer in a few off-shoot 24 games and was one of several Hollywood actors who were featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3), it *was* the first time he did both voice work and facial motion-capture.

With the departure of famous Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter, Sutherland no-doubt has some big boots to fill. Both he and Kojima seem confident that he’s up to the task however and it’s only a matter of time to see whether or not fans of the series warm to Sutherland’s portrayal as easily as Kojima did.
