Square Enix and Eidos have announced a new mobile entry in the popular Deus Ex franchise.

After teasing fans with the prospect of a new Deus Ex game earlier this week, Square Enix and Eidos Montreal have made good on their promise…Thought not in the way many fans might have hoped.

Deus Ex: The Fall is a mobile game coming to iOS devices later this summer for $6.99. While taking place in the same setting and timeframe as the previous console release Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Fall serves as a sequel to the Deus Effect novel Icarus Effect and stars mercenary Ben Saxon as he uses his augmented abilities to avenge his betrayal at the hands of his former employers and unravel a conspiracy in the process.

The gameplay will feature several streamlined elements such as customizable HUD icons as well as several new powers and augmentations that were not seen in Human Revolution.

Deus Ex: The Fall’s announcement shouldn’t really come as a huge surprise considering Square Enix’s recent pledge that they’d be focusing more on mobile titles but that probably won’t do much to lessen the sting for fans who were hoping for a full-fledged console sequel to Human Revolution.

The Fall will be playable at this year’s E3 next week at the Square Enix booth.
