PopCap has officially confirmed the July 18 release date for Plants vs. Zombies 2 and has released a new trailer to mark the occasion.
PopCap has officially booted up the Plants vs. Zombies 2 hype train by releasing a new trailer and confirming the game’s July 18th release date.
The game’s new moniker “It’s About Time” is going to be more than just a snazzy subtitle. As can be seen in the trailer, new time-travelling mechanics will be introduced that see protagonist Crazy Dave hopping into his RV and blasting off to places like Ancient Egypt, the Wild West, and even the future (of course this is based off the presets eagle-eyed viewers can see on Dave’s machine so don’t take that as actual confirmation just yet).
Publisher EA has also confirmed that the new Plants vs. Zombies game will have persistent online elements and will in fact be free to play (with optional in-app purchases of course). The online components will allow PopCap to release a continuous stream of new content following the game’s release including new levels, plants, and zombie types and some of the new base features included at launch will include new powerups and ways to interact with the zombies (though PopCap is remaining coy as to what exactly these new additions will be).
Players still have a little over a month to wait before they can get their hands on the new Plants vs. Zombies entry themselves but hopefully this trailer can tide them over in the meantime.
