The Xbox One has a potential fatal flaw and Microsoft knows all about it.

Now that we have had a few days to reflect on Microsoft's Xbox One announcement, among the few details that Microsoft did give on their new console one statement that stood out to me is that the new Kinect 2.0 will be required for the Xbox One to function. Mictost's Phil Harrison stated in an interview "Kinect and Xbox One are one and the same. They are two parts of the equation. Obviously the Kinect sensor is used for Skype, for communication, for voice recognition, gesture and motion sensing and the rest."

This may not seem like a big deal to some but could end up being a major issue for Microsoft, not that the Kinect is required but the potential for a RROD scenario for the Xbox One.

I understand that the Kinect comes with the Xbox One but what if it breaks? Microsoft does plan on releasing the Kinect seperately for the PC in the future but do they plan on not having any Kinect sensors breaking between launch day and the release of the Kinect being sold as a separate peripheral? There are ways around this issue and Microsoft may address them at E3 but after a statement was made why wouldn't he address a backup plan immediately to ease gamers minds in case disaster struck the new Kinect?
