After a month of anticipation, the Catching Fire teaser trailer has premiered at the MTV Movie Awards and it has absolutely been worth the wait.
For a month, MTV has been torturing us about the release of the official teaser trailer for Catching Fire, the eagerly awaited sequel to The Hunger Games. Finally, we've got it. At a massive two and a half minutes (when was the last time a teaser trailer was that long?), the Catching Fire trailer is heart-pounding, brilliantly directed, and utterly mind-blowing. Jennifer Lawrence never ceases to stun me with her acting and I am already in love with the new director.
Simple truth: if the teaser is this good, imagine how fantastic the movie will be.
In my opinion, the best part (as fans of the books will note) is that the teaser doesn't give too much away. In reality, the trailer only spans a few chapters and it doesn’t reveal the big twist of the book (spoiler alert, Catching Fire has huge twists). I've often felt that trailers spoil too much; they risk ruining the movie experience by exposing pivotal plot points. Even if the viewer doesn't realize it at the time, once they're in the theater, they anticipate and wait for the moments they saw in the trailer. In doing so, they lose the impact and power of the true movie experience.
The Catching Fire teaser doesn't do this. It gives us just enough to get us psyched and excited for the movie - without ruining it for us. It has, excuse the obvious pun, completely caught our attention and we cannot wait for this movie.
