It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Drill Core on the Nintendo Switch 2.
I feel like the best way I can describe Drill Core is a combination between a tower defense game and a simulation. I feel that way because there are times where you have to defend your base/mining facility from enemies. The simulation aspect is from when you have to collect gems and use those gems to get new miners and send them on dangerouns missions/quests. I really like the design/feel of the game as it really feels like these miners are relying on you to survive in this dank location.
One issue I had was that the game controls felt like they were designed for a touch screen rather than a controller. There were plenty of times where I had a tough time getting the controller where I wanted it to go. I got the hang of it eventually, but it was still a hassle. I would want to go to the top of the screen to build weapons, but I had to cycle all the way through everything I had on my mining rig before I could get to the place I wanted. It isn't the end of the world but it's just frustrating.
You'll have to find gems strewn about to get new weapons/tools/miners. That being said, start out with a couple of miners that can attack enemies because you will find enemies hidden in the rocks. These things take a lot of damage to kill and will probably kill your miners. You can set up a station to mine for gems on the surface and in turn will allow you to create more miners. You can speed up the process/game speed but there are times when it still feels too slow. I'd like to thank the devs for the review code.
