It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Super Meat Boy 3D on the Nintendo Switch 2.
If you have played a Meat Boy game, then you know what to expect from Super Meat Boy 3D. It has all the craziness as well as the cheapness you've come to expect from Meat Boy. Run from the start of the level to the end, along the way trying to get the best time and find a hidden bandage. If you're a completionist, you will force yourself to find everything hidden. A nice touch is having a replay mode after you finish a level. This is helpful as you can look around to find secrets while the game is going on.
The objective is to get to Meat Girl at the end of each level. You'll get an A+ rating if you finish the level under the achievement time. You'll have to master running, wall jumping/running, air dashing, and more to get the best time. There were a few times when I had trouble seeing what I could wall jump/run on or what was actually terrain to move on. You can also make your way to the Dark World after finishing a certain number of stages in the level. The Dark World levels are much tougher than the main world so be prepared. You also have boss fights/encounters and the first one for the video was challenging. You have to pace yourself and move slower than the rest of the game wants you to. That's kind of a pain because the game breeds you to move fast and then the boss fights make you do the opposite. It takes some getting used to and I might be the only one who feels this way.
Overall, Super Meat Boy 3D is a tough platformer that feels like a great addition to the Meat Boy series. Fans of Meat Boy and tough platformers will want to check it out. Make sure you check out the hands-on video below!
