It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at the Akatori demo on Steam. The game is being worked on for console, but we have the steam version to tide us over until then.
Fans of metroidvania games will really want to give Akatori a look. I really like the way the game looks, right off the bat. The combination of 3d environments and pixel characters works really well here. We play the role of Mako who lives in the Firebird Temple. She will be tasked with saving the realms from the Amber Storms, storms that causing chaos across said lands.
During the adventure, Mako will have all kinds of skills and abilities to use that range from uppercutting enemies to gliding with a glider. I really enjoyed the ground pound like move Mako has in her arsenal. I was not a fan of the electric seaweed in the water which looks like a tribute to the awful electric seaweed from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES. I also like getting a double jump really early in the game or at least really early in the demo.
The demo does a nice job of showing off everything the game has to offer. You get the look and feel of the locations. You also get to see how tough certain locations might be in terms of the giant sea monster and the Bee Boss. I really enjoyed my time with the Akatori demo and if the game is close to what the demo showed, then you'll want to keep an eye out for the full release.
