Chichuki Plays Gigasword

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually, it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time we're looking at Gigasword on the Nintendo Switch 2. I'll share the Steam Page link in the comments section if you'd like to play it on Steam. Fans of Metroidvania games will want to check this out!

You play the role of Ezra, a young man stuck on hard times who doesn't have anyone looking out for him. That is except for Omari. The only problem is that Omari is a member of the Nocturne, Owl-like monsters having an age old feud with Thoenhart. It becomes clear the the townsfolk are fed up with The Nocturne and head to the Nestrium to settle the score. General Vearst leads the townspeople to said Nestrium and takes Gnosis. The problem is that when Gnosis is removed, the humans around it turn into monsters. Omari was caught in the fighting and didn't make it out alive. With his dying breath, Omari gives Ezra his massive sword and tells him to get Gnosis back.

Right off the bat you find out that the sword is too heavy for you to carry in certain situations. There will be all kinds of puzzles for you to solve with your big sword. You'll be able to put your sword down in the ground or into an elevator to lift it. You can grab edges and jump, similar to a Super Mario wall jump. There will also be certain areas where you'll have to use the sword to push blocks, open doors, or weigh down switches. The puzzles aren't super tough but will make you think a bit.

You have a full arsenal to save the day. You'll be able to combo attack enemies with the sword. You'll also be able to upgrade your skills with either money or feathers found throughout the journey. You'll be able to upgrade at save points throughout. Ezra also has a dodge roll that will come in handy because you have to bait some enemies to attack before you can damage them. There are boss encounters in the Nestrium as well. You'll have to learn attack patterns to defeat them. When you get into the Nestrium, you'll gain access to the map. The map is easy to read as there is a key right next to it on the menu. You'll be able to see what doors you can open, what doors need keys and so on. There are ladders in rooms that you can lower to the lower sections to create shortcuts.

There are secrets strewn about as well. You'll be able to find feathers to upgrade. You'll also be able to find scrolls to give backstory and explain more about the journey. You'll also find carets to give to bunnies. It would be a good idea to attack everything so you can get plenty of currency to upgrade your sword. Also keep an eye out for cracks in walls. You'll find cool stuff hidden inside. You never know when you'll need a new skill to take down a tough foe. Destroy bosses to get Grand Keys. These keys will be used to unlock doors in the Nestrium.

Gigasword is a great time. I was lucky enough to play it at PAX East as well as the Steam demo and the game is something special. Fans of the Metroidvania genre will have to check it out. There's a few months left in the year but Gigasword is going to get some consideration for the Games of the Year/Indie Games of the Year lists I do.
