Nintendo Direct Sept Recap

It always feels like Christmas morning when Nintendo reveals a Nintendo Direct. This time was no different and this Nintedo Direct was going to about an hour in length. This one was one of the longer presentations so you know Nintendo was going to stuff in all kinds of interesting announcements.

It's Mario's 40th anniversary so the first part of the direct was all about the plumber from Brooklyn. In this segment, NIntendo revealed the official name of the next Super Mario movie and more. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie comes out next year but that didn't stop Nintendo from going more into Galaxy. A Galaxy 1 and 2 game bundle and new Amiibo were announced. Get your hands on a new Mario Amiibo as well as a new Rosalina Amiibo. But Nintendo wasn't done with Mario. Super Mario Bros Wonder is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 edtion and a Talking Wonder Flower toy/accessory. You'll be able to play more multiplayer games in the Wonder expansion, Meet Up in Bellebell Park. Yoshi is also getting a new game, Yoshi and the Mysterious Flower. It feels like Yoshi is playing the role of explorer where he is helping an encyclopedia collect data. Yoshi can use enemies to his advantage on his quest.

Storm Lancers, Dinkum, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Integrade, Lynked: Banner of the Spark, and Hades 2 were all revealed as well as release dates. In the case of Mortal Kombat, you'll be able to have it either physically or digitally. Kirby is also getting new Amiibo that will help you in the Kirby Air Riders game. Like in Smash Bros, you can use these Amiibo to train in the game and make computer players better. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment was also shown off as well as Nov 6 release date. Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is coming out in Feb of next year so fans of the Dragin Quest series won't have to wait too long. Dragon Quest 1 and 2 3D-HD Remake is coming out in October.

Here is the interesting segment of the direct. Nintendo announced that the Virtual Boy and it's games are coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service. You'll be able to play the Virtual Boy on the Nintendo Switch 2 but you'll have to buy the Virtual Boy add-on for the Switch 2. You can either get the add-on or a cardboard substitute similar to Nintendo Labo. I didn't think Nintendo would try and bring the Virtual Boy back but making you buy the add-on is so on brand for them.

It's a good sign to see games getting Nintendo Switch 2 enhancements. One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 will have more enemies on screen, Overcooked 2 will have a camera feature like Mario Party Jamboree. Stardew Valley is adding mouse controls and Human Fall Flat is adding new levels. It's good to see games getting Switch 2 updates to make them run better. Powerwash Simulator 2 will be coming out in the fall and Suika Game Planet will show up in the Winter.

One of the heavy hitter for this Direct was Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. New Amiibo for the game will come out in November and December this year. Samus showed off her innner Akira while riding that sweet motorcycle of hers in the new trailer. The game comes out December 4th so we don't have too much longer to wait.

Donkey Kong Bananza is getting paid DLC. Make your way around DK Island in this new update. You'll also be recruited to get a new job in the Emerald Rush mode. Void Kong wants to get you to work for him and collecting emeralds is his way to do it. This more is like a roguelike where you can find fossils to boost attaks/abilities to collect emeralds so you can clear stages. Pokemon was also shown off during the direct. Pokemon Legends Z-A showed off the Kalos Starter trio Mega evolutions for the first time as well as paid DLC with Raichu X and Y mega forms. Pokemon also showed off a life sim game starring Ditto, Pokemon Pokopia. Copy moves from other Pokemon and build up the surrounding locales.

An update to Danganronpa 2 was revealed as well as Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Danganronpa 2X2 hits in 2026 and the paid DLC for Dynasty Warriors: Origins comes out in January. Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflections comes out in March and Two-Point Museum comes out in October. Disgaea 7 Complete hits on Oct 10 and EA Sports FC kicks off in September. Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage sets the stage this winter. Lego Voyagers picks up the pieces in September. Celebrate Halloween with Little Nightmares 3 in October as well as Persona 3 Reload. Speaking of Halloween, scare the hell out of yourself with Resident Evil 9: Requiem in February of 2026 as well as Resident Evil 7 and 8.

Nintendo wanted to end the presentation on a high note and that's what they did by showing off Fire Emblem Fortunes Weave. The Fire Emblem series has always done a great job with presentation on the Switch and Fortunes Weave looks like another graphically impressive installment in the series. The voice acting really adds to the story as well.

It was one of the longer Nintendo Directs and it didn't disappoint. Keep an eye our for all the games mentioned in the coming months/year ahead.
