I have played Among Us on the Switch and Steam in the past and have enjoyed my time with the game. I don’t have the biggest group of people to play it with but it’s still a fun time. I was writing up other PAX East articles for GamerFudge.com when I received an invite email from Schell Games to check out Among Us but in 3D. I have to say that I think I like the 3D version of Among Us better than the original version. During the demo, we played two rounds of the game with seven other players. We played “Tag mode” where the accused, or in this case, the infected, went around and spread our illness to the other members of the crew. I was the infected in the first round along with another girl and we took the crew members to the cleaners, winning the round relatively quickly.
This mode is very quick and you can play quite a bit, without the need to kill cremates and have a meeting every time to throw someone off the ship. It’s also a nice touch that you can play on PC or a VR headset. I picked the PC because sometimes I get motion sick with VR headsets. There appeared to be a lot of motion, going through the station trying to get tasks done and didn’t want to be ill for most of the demo. I was a crewmate the second time through and got infected/tagged pretty quickly into the run. After getting infected you join the enemy team to infect the rest of the crew. Like in Among Us, if the crew finishes their tasks they win. However, if they all get infected, the infected team wins. As I said, I got tagged early but infected two other people in the run for the win. I wasn’t sure what to expect going into the demo but I had a blast playing it at the Schell Games booth. It would have been nice to have a longer session, but PAX East is pretty crowded so demos can’t be super long. An interesting feature is that the infected attack has a cooldown so you can’t spam it all the time. That adds more strategy to the mode because you have to plan out when and where you are for an attack. I did get a nice Among Us 3D pin with the character wearing old school movie 3D glasses and a suit so that’s pretty cool. Among Us in 3D is a cool idea and fans of the original should keep an eye out for it.
