It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time, we're looking at Seafrog on Steam. If you're a fan of frogs skateboarding, then this is the game for you. Jump on your wrench and set sail on the high seas.
Seafrog has that classic platforming feel to it and spins in around by way of traveling on a skateboard-like wrench. You will need to master the way of the wrench to traverse the different locations at sea. It was tough at times to try and figure out how to control and maneuver the stages. To travel in said levels, you will jump on your wrench and speed through different half-pipe like hallways/areas. You can update your wrench for more speed or attack power, for example, and attack enemies or hang upside down on the ceiling. There will be different challenge areas where you have to finish different tasks like killing all the enemies in a room. It is an interesting mechanic where you have to gain speed and use the wrench to blast through enemies.
There are modification chips or MOD Chips that you can find to upgrade attributes that should make things easier for the player. I really liked having to find the different pipes to tighten before I could get through to a different part of the ship. In a way, it felt like the player was being rewarded for exploring, in addition to finding different mod chips and collectables. One of the major issues I had with the game was the controls. I mentioned it earlier but at times it was very tough to control. I still had a good time with the game but there felt like a major learning curve to learn the basics of mobility in Seafrog.
