It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Plays, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. This time, we're looking at Type Noise:Shonen Shojo on Steam.
Let me start out by saying that Type Noise:Shonen Shojo keeps you on your toes every step of the way. Become a detective and try to solve the mystery in a point and click journey. It does a very good job of combing these genres and tells a pretty interesting story AND this was only the demo chapter. Take on the roles of Zena Yugamizora and Soto Ochibana as they try to make their way out of Noise Scramble City and back to their lives. You'll meet other kids who have been struck with the same fate as you but will you be able to work together to get back to normalcy?
You'll get the chance to play detective in certain areas as you look for clues. In one area, you might have to find a dry erase board and use a screwdriver on it. Whereas in another section, you might have to fill a cup with water and use that to find a new solution. It's fun and the locations don't have too many variables to search for. There is a scanning mechanic that allows you to see what you can interact with as well. In the demo, we made our way into an arcade and then the room of a gamer named Itsuki Hozuki. While looking for clues in his room, we learned his story and start to like him. I wasn't a big fan of his when we met him but learn a little backstory on this guy and things change. We also find out he's a fan of the classic video games and that gives him a bonus in my book.
There is another interesting gameplay mechanic in this game and that's the gathering of noise. Noise in Type:Noise are like lost memories and you'll need to find them to get through certain parts of the game. The items are put back together like puzzle pieces. Noise shouldn't be too hard to find as the items are usually part of the location to begin with like a gaming controller for Itsuki.
I played the demo chapter for Type:Noise:Shonen Shojo and am really impressed with what I saw. Aside from the occasional typo, I really liked where the story was headed and look forward to seeing more from it. I'd like to thank the devs for the demo code.
