It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Views, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. Today, we're checking out Deathbound on Steam.
One might compare Deathbound to the likes of Dark Souls but there is one major difference. In Dark Souls, you would build your character at the start of the game and you would have to wait quite a long time to change/rescale that character. In Deathbound, you will discover several different characters throughout your journey and each one will have a different style of play. One might be a knight that uses a sword and shield whereas the other might be a stealthy quick ninja/assassin.
You will be able to have four playable fighters at one time and you can change into them on the fly. They share health to an extent. What I mean by that is it looked like when I healed one party member, the max health of the other decreased. It's also cool to think that each character has chemistry with the other members in the party. That being said, if the two characters don't get along, the chemistry will take a hit and hinder your actions. You also have sync meter at the bottom of the screen that will allow for special attacks. You'll also be able to perform Morphstrike attacks that I was having trouble doing in the demo. You can attack and then switch to a new character on the fly and they can continue the combo with their attacks. I was trying with all my might to do it but I just couldn't get it to work.
One of the cooler things in Deathbound is when you get a new playable character. You get sent to an afterlife-like area where you get to see flashbacks from the life of said character. It also teaches you the play-style of the new party member and I really like this feature. It's cool to figure out who the dead corpse was before you grab them and get them to join your team. It's also really nice to get a crash course in the fighting style of your new fighter. Each character has a different skill tree so you will have to decide what characters you want on your squad and what skills to level up. You might find a new playable character but don't have enough skill points to level them up. I'd like to thank the devs for the preview code.
