Totally RAD RPG! Echo Generation Midnight Edition-Chichuki Views

It's that time again for a new episode of Chichuki Views, the show where I go hands-on with upcoming games and show them off. Usually it's about an hour or so but I don't want to spoil too much of the game for you. Today, we're checking out Echo Generation: MIdnight Edition on the Nintendo Switch.

Echo Generation feels like a love letter to the 80s and 90s and as someone who grew up in that time frame, I love that idea. Echo Generation is an RPG with a classic feel to it. It's a basic turn based RPG and pretty much anything you come across could become a battle. You might fight raccoons one fight and then a clown robot the next. You never know what it going to come your way.

There are tough puzzles to figure out and you will have to use your brain to get from point A to point B. You might need to find sheet metal for your neighbor to give you a bus pass. The only way to get said sheet metal is to go to the junkyard but you have to find a toy truck to give to a baby to give you a key to the junkyard. One might think of these as fetch quests but the locations are small enough that it doesn't take too long to travel. Combine that with fast travel phone booths and you can travel quickly.

I really like the combat in this game. My character was attacking with different hockey themed attacks and that is awesome. I also found it neat that comic books unlock new moves. You might get a new comic book as a quest reward so you probably will want to do a lot of them. Your sister joined the party and she used punches and kicks as her attacks. You level up by gaining experience from fights. The leveling up screen reminded me a lot of Paper Mario where you can pick from three set options, health/strength/skill. It depends on your style of play so choose wisely. I really liked when Meowsy joined the party as an attack cat but it also gave me a new party member.

The only thing I had trouble getting the hang of was blocking in battle. I thought I had the timing down but I was still taking damage. I liked that during battle the game reminds you how to perform special attacks and other tricks, like blocking, but I just wasn't getting it. If that's the only issue I had with Echo Generation, then I think it's a winner. I want to thank the devs for the review code!
