It's that time again for another Chichuki Views episode. This time around, we're jumping into the driver seat with New Star GP on the Nintendo Switch. If you ever wanted to try and become a race car driver, then New Star GP might be just for you. You get the basics of racing as well as keeping that cartoon-like atmosphere. There are two modes you can pick from: Career or Championship mode. The Championship mode is multiplayer but doesn't have online multiplayer. I think the game would be better if you could play with your friends online but I digress.
There's plenty of customization where you can pick all kinds of things to represent your racing team. You can pick the colors of the car, your uniform, your helmet, and so much more. You even get to hire your own pit crew and staff. One of the cooler features is that your actions have consequences. For example, if you decide to buy different tires at the request of the pit crew chief, you didn't pick the option to hang out with your PR rep. That makes the PR rep said and the crew chief happy. It's cool to see racing games like this have some RPG elements like that and picking different parts for example.
You can win races and challenges to get trophies and money to use to buy parts and equipment. You can also build morale in the team as well as unlock different perks like starting in 9th place instead of 10th. Another neat feature is interacting with other racers. If you were trying to pass another driver and he swerves into you it damages the vehicles. After the race, he might be pretty mad and say something to the press, you have the option to go right back at him or blow him off. I love the "him, him who?" answer I gave to the media when that happened.
Another than the lack of multiplayer online, the game didn't run smoothly. There were times when the menu was loading and it felt like the game was going to crash. Overall, if you're looking for a nice racing game that is pretty deep, New Star GP could be what you're looking for.
