If you are into top-down games where you control a giant robot with guns, then I have just the game for you. I was able to schedule some hands on time with Kool2Play’s game, Uragun and it was pretty fun. Let’s get right to it.
Long story short, you play as a robot mech, searching for it’s missing pilot as well as your friend. That being said, the world is overrun with artificial intelligence that’s corrupted and wants to take you down. Along the way, you’ll be able to unlock/discover new weapons and abilities that will make traveling through the different locations that much easier. One of my favorite weapons was the boomerang that not only clears out enemies; it creates a path of fire underneath said boomerang so there’s double firepower. You can also have rocket launchers or auto firing weapons to make the missions easier as well.
One of the cooler upgrades was the dash ability where you can dash across openings in the level as well as dash right though enemy hordes. There are all kinds of locations to traverse through from the likes of snow to mountainous terrain to name a few. During gameplay, you’ll be able to search for hidden objects strewn about the location to add to your score.
You’ll also be able to attack enemies to store power so you can activate a super mode where you can use special attacks/abilities as much as you want. The gage runs out quickly so attack what you need to so you don’t get stuck without power. You’ll have to learn levels and replay them so you can find everything each world has to offer.
The level of difficulty feels like it will ramp up further into the game. I feel this way since I was able to play multiple levels in the demo build and the later levels were pretty tough. The only issue I had with the demo build was that you went from full health to zero health pretty quickly. You have a way to replenish health but the enemies overpowered your mech was too quickly. There were times when I was paying attention to my health and still got killed. At times it was tough to figure out which direction to go in the level. However, the controls felt smooth and responsive. The graphical styling of the game show a lot of work went into it and it shows. Combine that with the different power ups and music, and Uragun is a game to keep an eye out for in the future.
