I recently got my hands on a review code from Limited Run Games for Alfonzo's Arctic Adventures. The game plays like a classic 8 bit NES games where you have to collect, in this case fish, to get through a certain level. The controls are simplistic and the characters are fun and the music is catchy. One of my favorite things in the game is that different characters do different things like "the girl" can throw knives and Alfonzo can whack things with a stick. The stages or "episodes" are short and have a golden fish to find in each level. It appears that the less lives you use to complete each level, the more extra lives you get for future levels. One issue I have is that you can't go back to replay a level after completing it. The completionists looking for all the gold fish will be out of luck. There are boss fights as well that took a minute or two to get comfortable with but were enjoyable. The Snow Flake monster fight was probably my favorite as it felt like an old school shooter. Just because the monster got the best of me a lot doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it and it meant so much more where I finally killed it. It's these reasons that I'm giving Alfonzo's Arctic Adventures for the Nintendo Switch an 8.5/10. I'd again like to thank Limited Run Games for the review code.
