Next up on the Pax East 2018 reality tour was a stop at the Playniac booth to get hands on with their game, Insane Robots. Long story short, you’re trying to save bot-manity and prevent the robot rebellion. Do you think you’ll be up to the task?
Insane Robots will have local and online multiplayer when it’s released to the masses! What better way to prevent the robot rebellion than with a game that’s part trading card game, part strategy game? The card game aspect comes out during the battle phases in randomly generated arenas. Each arena is different so you never know how the game is going to end up.
The objective of each arena/map is to defeat the other robots before they get you. Now, depending on the map, you might be at an advantage or a disadvantage during battle. For example, if you happen to be on top of a mountain, you get bonus points during battle and your attack goes up. This could be the advantage you need in battle! You’ll be able to play in tournaments as well but if you don’t win the tournament, you won’t be able to collect your winnings.
There are items/money/other things that you can find on the arena during the tourney that you will have to gather but the other robots out there can collect as well. There will be broken down machines that can be fixed on the game board that could give you more money/items but could be duds and cost you money instead. There are shops on the board as well that you can buy things such as health and repair kits and other “ability chips” that can help you in battle. The battle system is pretty straightforward but difficult to master, think trading card game. You’ll be able to set your defense and your offense to attack the other robot and that’s the objective. However, once you attack, your offensive chips are reset and the same can be said for defending.
During gameplay there are different chips that can turn the tide in battle such as locking chips that can lock the value of your chips, coin chips so you can get more money for winning battles, and other chips that can negatively effect your opponent. You can also attack your opponent directly as well as draw a chip to your hand but you’ll need three gears( I believe that’s what they’re called) to attack but you can get chips to add to your gear pool during turns. During battles, if you beat the living daylights out of your opponent and collect damage over the number that would kill it, you can collect “overkill” damage. The more overkill damage you collect, the more points and money you can get for the victory! More money means more stuff you can buy in the shops and that’s always a good thing!
The arena/tourney environments will have hazards that you will need to watch out for and those can range from enemy fire to lava/fire damage. There is an interesting hazard underwater where you can’t see anything and you will need to be on your guard, as you don’t know what’s going to come after you there! As I mentioned earlier, there will be online play, both local and online play and the online play will be ranked multiplayer. You’ll be able to compete against your friends and against the world to be the best insane robot!
There are plenty of robots to pick from as well since there are 43 robots to unlock during gameplay so everyone should be able to find one to be their favorite! One of the best parts of the game is that you can talk trash to your friends during multiplayer and since the robots all talk in robot voices, it sounds like a robot is talking smack to your friends and how cool is that? Insane Robots is planned to release this year for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.
