Next up on Day 3 at E3 was a booth tour and hands on time at Activision. Activision has two big sequels coming out with Destiny 2 and Call of Duty WW2. First person shooters are all the rage these days so let’s get right into it!
I started by appointment with Destiny 2 and the group was playing a “capture the flag” style multiplayer game. You’ll have to think on your feet and be quick with a trigger in this competitive multiplayer arena. If you aren’t, things can and will turn bad very quickly for you and I know from experience. While working together with your team, you have certain tasks you can achieve during the multiplayer battle but these are simple like protection.
You’ll have the option to change your weapon during the fight so make sure you have the best one for your style of play. If you don’t, it’s going to be a long match and it won’t be much fun for you. Stealth is key as well so you’ll want to find a good hiding spot so the other side doesn’t kill you immediately. The demo had you play against other E3-goers and they were ruthless, only giving you a few moments before they would hunt you down for sport. Anyway, the controls were fine except I did have an issue with the way the control stick was used for aiming. It just felt to loose to me since there were times where I was trying to be precise with a shot and I would be shooting straight up into the sky and then get shot by the person I was trying to kill. The camera had the same problems for me. Anyway, on to Call of Duty WW2
The Call of Duty franchise has been the gold standard for Activision for quite some time now but Sledgehammer Games wanted to go back to their roots for their newest installment WW2. One of the newer features for WW2 is the multiplayer career mode, Divisions. You’ll join a World War II division and have weapons and abilities that only that Division can have. You’ll have to decide if you want to join the Airborne, Mountain, Infantry, Armored, or Expeditionary Force Division. Each division will have a job to do during battle so make sure you know how to handle it, the service isn’t for everyone!
There is also a new mode, War Mode. Players work together in teams to defeat a common enemy. Allied against Axis forces just like in History for objectives add a new feel to the Call of Duty series. There will also be a Headquarters mode where players can connect with friends and compete and earn rewards.
Destiny 2 and Call of Duty WW2 play pretty much the same way in terms of control schemes. The issues I had with Destiny 2 were in Call of Duty WW2 but they weren’t as prevalent but they’re all the same. (Aiming and camera) Getting to decide what division you belonged to was neat and that decided what weapons you had is cool too. We played War mode, working together to defeat the enemy and lost and then switched sides, becoming the enemy. After we became the enemy we won because we were able to defend one of the bridges.
E3 is an important time for everyone but that rings true for Activision. Call of Duty WW2, Destiny 2, and Crash Bandicoot (didn’t get to play) were shown and should be hits for the company.
