Next up on the Steve Tyminski E3 tour was a stop at Alienware, who hosted a great party earlier in the week where I got my “TumsST” custom drawsring backpack but that was earlier in the week. There is a lot to cover from Alienware so lets get right to into it!
Alienware knows what got them where they are today and that is hardware. Hardware helps pay the bills and they want to be close to the customers. At a time they didn’t know how to do that but they do now with the modifications in social media.
They want to make it easy for people to chat with them to get help when they need it and that could be jumping on Twitch or another chat site. It’s all about listening to the customer and that was the main theme of the presentation, taking what the customer wants and doing something with it. One of the main focal points at Alienware appears to be keeping the price down at a manageable number between 500 and 5,000; that’s a service to the customer!
Esports is all the rage these days and Alienware got in the on the ground floor and has been a integral part of two teams. They have been partnered with Team Dignitas for 10 years and Team Liquid for 6 years.
Your team needs the top of the line products and Alienware has them covered with the likes of the new Inspiron 15 Gaming Laptop. The Inspiron 15 Gaming Laptop has duel fan cooling as well as it was built for gaming. It also has new IPS panel options. There is also a Inspiron Gaming desktop for $599 that can be configured for Virtual Reality. If you decide to do that it’s still under a grand at $949.
One of the cooler things shown during the presentation was the Area-51, a 16-core desktop powered by AMD Threadripper Intel Skylake-X CPU. The reason why I think this is so cool is because this piece of equipment will be able to run multiple things at once on your computer because it has 16 cores. You’ll be able to stream and cut video on the same machine in a reasonable amount of time and the Area 51 is so small it can fit in your pocket the whole time.
Next on the docket were gaming peripherals and displays. The question that was tough for Alienware to answer was “How do you make these things hard core?” The answer was that you don’t. You listen to the gamers out there and see what they want and then do it. On the part of gaming mice, weight variations, button customizations, and durability were key for these mice. The same could be said for keyboards except the keyboard has a steel plate in it to make it more durable.
Finally, we have a gaming monitor and gaming notebook at the end of the presentation. The 25-inch Gaming Monitor is durable and it features Nvidia G-Sync or AMD Freesync. It can’t have both however. It has virtually no lag and for first person shooter games, you can’t afford one slip up so every second is key. As for the 15.6-inch notebook, it is a hinge design that gets the mechanical/graphics heat away from the keyboard. All the time some gamers spend on their computers, you need all the relief you can get
The units were out on the show floor and they were very impressive. The mice were lightweight and can be customized to fit any style of grip. The displays on the notebooks were sharp and crisp and you could see everything you were looking at. Alienware is the up-and-coming company in terms of blowing it out of the water.
