Penny Arcade, host to one of the internet’s largest gaming communities, and ReedPOP, the world’s leading producer of pop culture events, today announced a global expansion of PAX gaming events under a new Powered by PAX brand. The first event will be GC PLAY Powered by PAX held in Guangzhou, China on November 10-12, 2017.
The Powered by PAX brand of events will be run by the same teams behind the successful North American and Australian shows including PAX West, PAX East, PAX South, PAX Aus, PAX Unplugged and PAX Dev. These events will feature many of the same elements fans have come to know and love such as panels, concerts and hands-on competitions while remaining true to the local region and culture.
“Just like games powered by 3D engines, the Powered by PAX brand will bring the culture, content, and community of PAX to new shows internationally” said Guy ‘Yug’ Blomberg, Global PAX Content Director. “We have a strong team and excellent partners in China to make the show awesome and unique, along with international support from Penny Arcade and ReedPOP North America.”
GCPLAY Powered by PAX is jointly organized by ReedPOP and the Guangdong Grandhub Culture Development, under the guidance of the Department of Culture Guangdong Province and with support from the Guangdong Entertainment & Game Industry Association.
“Guangdong province boasts a strong games industry,” said Ms. Lu Xiaokun, President of the Guangdong Entertainment & Game Industry Association and Chair of Guangdong Grandhub Culture Development. “The games industry revenue in Guangdong accounts for 73.4% of the national total, and 17.5% of the global total. Industry leaders gather in the province, however there has not been an exchange platform support communication between industry colleagues home and abroad. We believe in the gamer-centric idea of PAX."
