Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal Part 2 Blu-Ray DVD Review

Sailor Moon has been around for years and for some people was their first foray into the anime genre. There have been many installments of the franchise and the series recently was remastered into the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal series. For those who don’t know, the Crystal series retells the original series but doesn’t have all of the filler episodes the original anime was known for. Does Part 2 stack up to Part 1? Let’s get right into it!

The Blu-Ray box set comes with an art book as well as six post cards, highlighting the characters of the series. The art book has breakdowns of each episode in Part 2 as well as voice actor interviews. The interviews are with some of the main cast such as Johnny Yong Bosch, who plays Artemis. The interviews go into detail about how the actors felt about getting their part in the series and other details.

It also has minor episode storyboards and character illustrations so any fan of the series will want to get their hands on this box set. The synopsis for each episode, 26 in total, aren’t too long but have a large illustration from the episode.

Without giving away the plot of Part 2, a strange girl falls from the sky and hits Usagi right on the head. Who is this girl and how does she know Usagi and the Sailor Guardians. The Black Moon Clan also wants to get their hands on this girl, also named Usagi but why? You will just have to watch the DVD’s to find out!

The Blu-Ray box set has standard and Blu-Ray discs, 2 discs for whichever one you decide to watch. Like most anime DVD’s, you can decide how you want signs and songs to be displayed but this is pretty common in this day and age. The menu also has an illustration gallery where you can see character illustrations and trailers for Viz media products.  There is one interesting feature where you can watch interview with the band that sang the theme song for the series in the special features, Momoiro Clover Z.

I like the fact that the Crystal series is moving at a much faster pace that the original series didn’t. There aren’t filler episodes in this and usually, you can’t have an anime series without filler but it works. I’m giving the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal Part 2 Blu-Ray box set a 9/10. I would like to thank Viz Media for the review copy.
